Wood and Waves
Hand built from locally sourced wood and based on a spitfire propellor. Otter surfboards are the closest thing you’ll get to riding a wave like the Hawaiian pioneers from years gone by.
James Otter has perfected the manufacture of the hollow wooden surfboard at his workshop in Cornwall. His work is a labour of love and when he gets the opportunity he is out riding the waves at one of the local beaches.
We wanted to better understand what made James tick and find out more about his connection with wood and waves, so we spent a weekend with him in the workshop and at a variety of beautiful beaches on the South coast. During our time with him we captured these unique boards being made and also witnessed his effortless wave riding on these wooden pieces of art.
